New Coordinator of Graduate Certificate in Research

Congratulations to Derek Rowlands who has been appointed to the position of Coordinator Graduate Certificate in Research.

This is a new position which will coordinate a training program for new research students. It is valuable for the Library to have this connection with the program, as the literature review is an important starting point for these students.
Derek will be on a two year secondment to this position. Given the experience he has with copyright, it is reassuring that he has another position at UTAS rather than leaving us completely. He will be taking up his new appointment on 20th September.

Senior Library Officer (Document Delivery)

I am very pleased to announce that Rachel Adams was the successful candidate for the position of Senior Library Officer (Document Delivery), based in the Morris Miller Library.

Most of you will know Rachel, who has been with UTAS for many years, including nine in Document Delivery.  Rachel will be taking over much of the work previously undertaken by Chris Halloran as well as continuing the work that she has been doing with VDX over the last few years.

Client Services Coordinator

I am very pleased to announce that Glynis Jones is the successful candidate for the position of Client Services Coordinator.  

Glynis has been working in Launceston for the last three months as a Liaison Librarian but also has experience in a number of other Library roles in both Western Australia and Queensland.

Glynis will be primarily based at the Launceston Campus Library but will be travelling extensively to other Branches over the next twelve months, working with Client Services and other staff.

Step Up Project

I am pleased to advise that Susan Robson, Liaison Librarian based at the Morris Miller Library, has been nominated as Project Librarian for the Step Up Project, Phase 2.

The Step Up Project has received Community Engagement funding.

Phase 1 is underway and will extend Special Borrowing privileges to post year 10 students and their educators.

In Phase 2, the Library will encourage the development of information literacy skills for pre-tertiary students by offering an early introduction to the UTAS environment through sessions delivered by the Library.

Karmen Pemberton

New Librarian for Clinical Library

Congratulations to Katrina Dewis who has been appointed Clinical Librarian.

Katrina has worked in a variety of positions in the Library since 2005, including liaison librarian in Morris Miller Library. She moved to the Clinical Library in 2007 as our first Liaison Librarian B appointment under the new structure. In addition to her librarianship skills, Katrina brings significant experience as a Customer Service Business Manager, which is highly relevant to her role. With Ian Barton's retirement earlier this year, I knew there would be big shoes to fill in the Clinical Library. However, Ian could see Katrina's potential for the future and took some time to mentor her. I am delighted that having gone to external advertisement for both this position and the Art/Music Librarian position that we have internal candidates that have proved successful in a competitive field.
