Senior Library Officer (Document Delivery)

I am very pleased to announce that Rachel Adams was the successful candidate for the position of Senior Library Officer (Document Delivery), based in the Morris Miller Library.

Most of you will know Rachel, who has been with UTAS for many years, including nine in Document Delivery.  Rachel will be taking over much of the work previously undertaken by Chris Halloran as well as continuing the work that she has been doing with VDX over the last few years.

Client Services Coordinator

I am very pleased to announce that Glynis Jones is the successful candidate for the position of Client Services Coordinator.  

Glynis has been working in Launceston for the last three months as a Liaison Librarian but also has experience in a number of other Library roles in both Western Australia and Queensland.

Glynis will be primarily based at the Launceston Campus Library but will be travelling extensively to other Branches over the next twelve months, working with Client Services and other staff.

Dewey conversion project update

Hi everyone
I'd like to give you news on the progress being made on this very large project.
As you know the AMC trial was completed in early July this year. Since then, R&A have been continuing the manual reclassification of Launceston items. In early July, we began with 25,000 records to reclassify (excluding Curriculum records), and now we are down to 5,500!!! After weeding, the actual amount reclassified for Launceston presently stands at a little over 14,000 records.

The reclassification of such a large collection is a huge project which has been well handled by R&A staff with Andrew Parsons as coordinator. Due to a short time frame, R&A have worked quickly to obtain LC numbers from other library catalogues, or create new numbers where these don't exist. It is a time consuming task which requires analytical skills and knowledge of Library of Congress classification system.
Congratulations to Liaison Librarians who have been busily weeding unwanted items from the Launceston and Curriculum collections. They have been able to discard approximately 28,000 items.
We anticipate finishing the manual reclassification component of the project by late November, and hopefully will be able to regain normality in R&A!!

Step Up Project

I am pleased to advise that Susan Robson, Liaison Librarian based at the Morris Miller Library, has been nominated as Project Librarian for the Step Up Project, Phase 2.

The Step Up Project has received Community Engagement funding.

Phase 1 is underway and will extend Special Borrowing privileges to post year 10 students and their educators.

In Phase 2, the Library will encourage the development of information literacy skills for pre-tertiary students by offering an early introduction to the UTAS environment through sessions delivered by the Library.

Library Officer (Document Delivery) in Launceston

I am pleased to announce that the successful applicant for the position of Library Officer (Document Delivery) in Launceston is Halina Rybczyk.

Halina will be working three days per week in Document Delivery and two days per week as a Library Officer (Faculty Services).

Office 2003 - 2007, Interactive Guides

There a some handy interactive guides available from Microsoft for when you know where a command is in an Office 2003 program but can't locate it in the Office 2007 version. You can download them to your desktop from - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/training/HA102295841033.aspx
They work well and can save some serious frustration.
